First Round: The two first round duels leading up to this matchup were very similar. Jaycy defeated Harris D'Artanian by around 8 to 9 vote, probably translating into a 5-2 win where she clearly led the whole way. Ironically...were this DoF, there would be a decent chance that the tallies would have been reversed. A further irony is that in my opinion, neither situation would paint a true picture. This one would have been a close duel, in my estimate.

The same could be said for Avery Shiv Blade vs. Ian MacKenzie. The paucity in Ian's challenge and TDL records was very decieving and he would present a very formidable obstacle to Avery. On the other hand, Avery's skills were prodigal any way you cut it. The voting went along the same lines as Jaycy/Harris, with Avery winning by a convincing five to six point lead.

Past History: Jaycy and Avery have never met in a challenge situation or in the rings of the Team Dueling League. However, in terms of positive history...this matchup is only eclipsed in the second round by Morgan le Fay vs. Jake Thrash. Jaycy and Avery were close friends, a member of a ring of SwordSiblings consisting of several other duelers of their generation(Cassius Maximius and Daelin Dragonsblade were also in this clique, as was veteran duelist Zen Rising). Adding to the ties was the fact that as owner of the TDL franchise known as the Bladesingers, Jaycy was the boss of Avery's wife, Casey....although one has to wonder about Avery's feelings towards his spouse's employer after Casey ended Avery's 21 TDL winning streak while dueling for Jaycy's BLS!

"Common Links" in Challenge and Tournament Duels: Jaycy has lost to Cletus Ganderfald twice in the Arena's challenge rings...she lost the Overlordship to him, and lost to him in an unsuccessful challenge for that very same august title, in a 2-0 B03 whose end result belies how closely fought the match really was. Avery has also lost to Cletus twice in the challenge ring...in two Right of Challenge duels in Baronial Intercessions as the interceding Overlord. However, Shiv Blade also defeated Ganderfald to win the 12th Ring. Jaycy has lost in a notable DoS tournament duel to her former paramour Leo de Lorenzo twice: In the Spring 2001 WLT one-loss bracket final, and in a shutout loss in the second round of the 2008 DoS Madness(Dalamar Division); Avery defeated Lorenzo in a 2-0 B03 to successfully defend the Overlordship. Jaycy lost to Shakira in a Test of Worthiness duel, testing Shakira on behalf of Overlord Max Quinlan Blue; Avery defeated Shakira in a Baronial Intercession duel, with Shakira as the interceding Overlady..this is the only challenge duel that Shakira ever lost. Finally, Jaycy lost to Verceterix Gavin Favre in the Spring 2001 WLT undefeated bracket final, while Avery defeated Favre in a Test of Worthiness duel, on behalf of Overlord Seamus MacDonnaugh.
