The Green Phoenix

Post by Alik Murphy »

~~ The Green Phoenix ~~

The Phoenix is a quiet Irish-style pub nestled in central-eastern Dockside. From the outside, it blends in with the rest of the dingy alleyways surrounding it, dark, dusty, and forgettable except for the sign hanging out over the front door. However, it sticks out from the rest of the street due to the gentle orange glow from inside, the noise of cheering patrons, and general merriment. That, and the general brand of customer present. Shady figures, dark coats, and hidden faces while outside. But when inside, these men of the night are free to be themselves, among their friends and brothers. Inside, the place echoes a country pub in your average Irish village. A long bar, two large televisions over it showing hurling, Gaelic football, or soccer. There's a stage where trad bands could be found on a Sunday afternoon playing music that fills the room, tables laid out across the floor, and most importantly, a walled-off booth with frosted glass in the corner. That is where business is taken care of. Where the quiet men who hang about in the shadows come to talk in solitude, often with guests from outside. A flight of stairs behind the bar leads to the floor above, the home of a certain young, Irish, loud-mouthed fugitive who calls this place home, and a place of business.

The recently hired barmaid is Alice Burton, a mysterious figure, seemingly close with the owner. She works part-time, fixing drinks, delivering orders to the cook, and cleaning up. She also seems to take an unofficial role as the pub's bouncer, though her "people management" skills only really need to be used rarely. Those who see how she deals with unruly patrons know better to do the same, and those on the receiving end of her discipline know better than to do it again. She also deals during the pub's nightly card games, if business on the drinks is slow, and she can afford the time. She seems to be exceptionally skilled at it.

The owner and proprietor of the Phoenix, the infamous Alik Murphy, can be seen here some of the time. He lives in the apartment on the upper floor but rarely hangs out in the pub itself. He is usually either upstairs in his downtime, or taking care of business on the street.

Mikey Dunham, a.k.a. The Sergeant, is present a lot more often. He runs the place from day to day, sometimes helping out behind the bar, but oftentimes indulging in the free booze.

Benjamín Diego Salamanca is the head of security for the bar. He doesn't speak much, if at all, but is fiercely loyal to the rest of the four and not the kind of man one would want to cross.

Patrick Connolly, a.k.a. Skinny, is a good friend of Alik's and runs security in the pub along with Salamanca, acting as a sort of sidekick to the four.

As far as refreshments go, the place is stacked. The pub specializes in Guinness and a plethora of different whiskeys, but they have almost every drink under the sun there, and it's all good. More than enough for a man to come and forget about the troubles of life. For those in a more risky mood, other intoxicants are sold in whispers out the back of the pub, often by the staff themselves, from weed to much harder drugs. The pub serves some food, but in all honesty, most of it's not very good. Though they do a brilliant Full Irish breakfast, and as advertised by a little chalkboard in the corner of a bar... they also sell bowls of fried pickles for fifteen bucks a pop. For some reason. But if anyone actually asks, despite the exorbitant price, they always seem to be out.
