Another Shredded List or Wedding Invitation.

Post by Tera Destre »

Miss Partinger, the cowgirl’s deportment tutor, and the Westridge councilors convincing her that if she forgot to invite even one diplomat from the wrong country Westridge could find themselves at war over her fancy state wedding had her currently in the state she was in.

Now less than a full week away standing in the middle of an apartment that looked as though it had been burglarized by thieves bent on wrecking the place rather than taking anything of real value. It was the middle of the night and Gavilean was off back seeing to some last minute business with the council in Westridge.

Little Kali Kat was giving herself a bath on the back of the cushionless sofa as though all was well in the world which it most certainly was not in Des’ eyes as there was a wedding invitation list missing and danged if she could find it anywhere.

The tiny kitten, Isis, was curled up sound asleep on one of the feather pillows from the bed that had somehow ended up in the middle of the living room floor in the tiny tornado, that was the bride-to-be this coming Sunday, as she turned the apartment at 42 Cranapple St. Upside down and inside out looking for the list that was just plain gone.

Balefully she eyed Little Kali Kat who should have gone up in flames at that instant but instead continued licking her paw and bathing herself totally ignoring the fuming cowgirl who spun on her heel and stalked into the kitchen which had sadly faired no better in the onslaught of list seeking furor.

Where was a husband when you needed one was what she wanted to know as she poured herself a mug of the sludge that was currently passing for coffee in their home since her beloved was away and he made much better coffee than she did. A delightful shiver raced down her spine at the thought of him and a soft little dreamy sigh passed her lips. “I do love that man of mine.”, she said with a slow smile as wicked thoughts circled in place of the worry over the missing list.

Suddenly she had an inspiration and slammed the half full mug down on the counter then grabbed up one of the several remaining invitations and ran for the front door in a mad dash. Off she went out into the streets. Des lifted a hand to the silver torque at her throat and murmured in dragon language just as Tass had taught her and a pale blue glow surrounded her as the spell of protection expanded outward and settled around her.

She wasn’t taking any chances this close to the fancy wedding with Gav being out of town and who knew what kind of mood Tara’s husband might be in at the moment and her out in the middle of the night by herself. She wasn’t going to risk a war either though so there she was running like a crazy woman through the pre-dawn streets of Rhydin with a wedding invitation in one hand and a stick pin in the other toward the town square.

As she smoothed the invitation against the board and shoved the pin home to hold it in place she couldn’t help but wonder if other brides ever had to go to such lengths to ensure that everyone that should get an invitation to their weddings got one and if they too had cats that liked to shred important lists apparently just because they could. And if perhaps said cats should be boiled in oil if they weren’t such loved and pampered pets.

And just maybe if all male vets shouldn’t be neutered for attempting to charge three hundred silvers for declawing a cat which of course meant the owner was not about to have their pet declawed and would therefore continue to have to deal with having their things shredded at random.

Mission accomplished she turned and headed back home to her empty, ransacked apartment, and the couch where she would be sleeping until her beloved returned.
