The room was dark, except for a tiny candle illuminating just enough so that he could see the book. He didn't bother with a pen. He just let his mind flow and the words appeared on the pages.
Thoughts and Deductions
Magic...such a strange thing unto itself. Many times it appears to defy the laws of physics as we know it. However, I'm inclined to believe that we do not understand it because much of it is not from this realm. There are some such as this where it seems like almost anyone is capable of it, and then I have seem some where it is non-existant.
Secondly, there are many different types of magic. I'll not go into details on everyone, lest this book go on forever. Still, it is not all the same. It all boils down to the method of which one chooses to use it. One way is a manipulation of what currently exists, but in a way that lacks specific physical cause. Example- a fireball springing out of my hand. It still follows all the physical laws that go along with the creation of such a thing, combustion, friction, ect. yet lacks a natural cause.
Second, outside forces brought into play. Extra-dimensional energies that are brought to our plane and react differently due to reactions with out physical laws. This can be attributed to superstring theory's abberation, but on a much smaller scale and with it's effects being much less permanent.
Another thing to note. Best way to describe diffences is magics is to equate them to languages. Many diffent ways to say hello, but they're all still trying to do the same thing. perhaps it would be possible to put together some kind of translation guide?[/i]

Had a conversation with Rhaine the other night concerning parallel universes, pocket universes, and other realms. It was quite enlightening.
Based upon current scientific and religious models, our universe was created in the Big Bang. Whether this was caused by natural phenomenon or a higher power is irrelevent. It happened, and here we are. Yet there is proof (Algol Siento for instance) that other universes exist. So how did they get there? Are we "God's" tinkertoys?
Laws of conservation of matter and energy say it can neither be created or destroyed. Yet by using our linear way of reckoning time, something had to create the matter that was there at the Big Bang. With this problem unsolvable by normal cause and effect methods, I am forced to believe that it must be a paradox. The effect comes first (creation of universe) followed by what caused it (event unknown).
The downside to this line of thought is that it implies that there is an end of time. This can be tied into the next line of thought. I think it's possible that each universe, over time, ties itself to a particular person, and as that person dies, so does that universe. The implications of this are astonishing. I'll have to look into this more.....

Two notes today, but they may take some time.
It's funny to notice how egotistical most people can be, myself included at times. One would swear that they felt that they were the center of their universe; that the world revolved around them. I wonder if this reaction is a coping mechanism to help us deal with the fact that in the grand scheme of things, we are not all that important. Even I realize that the universe will (and can since there are an infinite number in which I don't exist as well) get along without me and/or anyone else for that matter. It's just a matter of seeing through our delusions.
Take these games and current courses of action that I am otherwise involved in. The actions of everyone involved have an impact. Whether the impact is large or small matters not. It all comes together to make an intricate puzzle. Some people will get pleasure from it, others pain, and some may just have a passing interest. To us, it is all consuming. After all, it is our lives. But I still wonder what legacy it will leave.
Perhaps I'm looking at the mosaic from the wrong perspective. If only I were able to see the whole picture instead of just the little tile that I occupy.
Second note- The magic translation guide is coming along quite nicely, although I'm sure I'll be working on it for the rest of my life if I ever want to see it completed. So many styles of use, but they all have been easy enough to change over from their respective energies into a mathmatical structure. That's one good thing about being in Rhydin. Such a diverse crowd to study from.
I've kicked around the idea of attaching a title to it. Saw a book in a a store that got a good laugh from me and gave me the idea of calling it "The Dummies Guide to Magics in Mathmatical Form." I'll just use it as a working title for now.
Haven't gotten around to telling the other members of the Temple about this little project, or some of the others that I've taken up, but maybe it's time I do, just to make things interesting. White Lady knows they could use it.
