Visitor to the Guild Hall
Alais and Rhaine had come to a sort of truce, but how long it could last between an Elf and the Asmodean remained to be seen. It seemed to Alais that a Paladin vampire was more than an oxymoron, but Rhaine had told her to seek out Rakeesh to determine the veracity of her statements.
Here it was. The Guild Hall of Rakeesh. She'd seen the Liontaur earlier in the day, but was uncertain it was Rakeesh, and she'd not wanted to intrude further upon him if it was not.
She walked up to the Guild Hall doors and knocked. The person answering was told that she was here to seek audience with Rakeesh, and that she would wait his pleasure to see her.

Rhaine walked out of the guild library, refreshed and calm after a night of reading. Reading was better than trying to find temporary oblivion in a trance that served her as "sleep" serves mortals. Her senses prompted her to shift into shadows - right on time to evade keen eyes of silver-haired elven woman. Gathering the magical fields that could give her away to someone with spectral eyesight similar to her own, she felt safer.
"So you're curious, Alais..." she grinned to herself. "Excellent. One problem less - I wouldn't wish you to ask Sylus questions and get more information than I can allow you to have."
Invisible Rhaine turned her palms to the door - raising her hands, as if in a greeting. The Shadows opened, welcoming her, allowing her to sink deeper than Sylus ever could. Shadow-walkers of this world knew little about the sub-reality they used! Rhaine, a healer and life mage, hadn't used the dark side of her talent for the last two centuries - but it was the time to awaken finally from the slumber. It was no issue of entertainment anymore. Now she could watch the elven lady without being seen even from the shadows accessible by "normals". Rhaine never liked spying, but there was no choice.

Waiting
Alais wandered around the common room of the Guild Hall looking at the shelves of books. There was an old bound book that appeared to be of goblin hide laid closed on a stand near the door. She took the quiet moments to her and opened the book. There, set in ink, or other pigmented materials were the oaths of those who accepted the Guild precepts and tenets. There she found one written by Rhaine.
"Sae, ye spoke true sayin' ye were wi' th' guild."
She pondered that for long moments. A vampire in the guild. It made no sense at all, and deepened the mystery that she hoped Rakeesh could shed some light upon.
Closing the book, she chose an overstuffed chair near the windows to wait. A chill, not unlike what one experiences when one feels they are being watched descended over Alais as she waited. It was distinctly the feeling of apprehension at someone covertly studying you, and then it was gone.
Hopefully, Rakeesh would have time for her soon.

He had just come out of his rooms in the back areas of the guild when he noticed Alais in the hall...and then he caught Rhaine's scent.
Since he could not see Rhaine it was obvious she was sitting among the deeper shadows. Sylus could tell Rhaine's intent was on watching Alais.
Not trying to hide himself he summoned his wolf-kin side and followed her scent. His amber eyes glowed faintly. He knew she was covering herself from spectral sight..but the eyes of wolves see through the dark as well as any man in broad daylight. Even with his hightened sight she was still unseen, but he knew where she was. This revelation made him grin...
"So Rhaine, you are traveling in the deeper shadows....how foolish of you"
He began to walk along the wall and stopped beside Rhaine's showdowed form, his gaze intent on Alais. Without taking his eyes of the elven woman he spoke to Rhaine.
" You can't hide from me, Rhaine. I didst not know you were foolish enough to venture into the truly deeper shadows...You shouldst ken what lives in them. Beings darker than you or Ah couldst evva be."
Turning his head he looked right into Rhaine's hidden eyes and looked truly disappointed at her. With a shake of his head, he walked over to Alais and extended his greeting and welcomed her to the guild and asked her why she came as he took a seat across from her. He had business to discuss with Rakeesh as well.

The vampiress watched the amber aura or Sylus approaching. Her midnight-blue eyes flared at his attempt to lecture, yet she said nothing. Arguing with someone like Sylus didn't feel right - males tend to become absolutely brainless when they try to be over-protective and have their intellect clouded by pretty females. Rhaine merely continued watching Alais.... and waiting for Rakeesh.
She was disturbed though. The change in manner of speaking... the ability to go deeper into the Shadows... this was strange. And the change has come from that elven lady from I'Taurn...

Guild Halls
As I waited for a chance to speak with Rakeesh, I was surprised and not, to see Sylus walk from the shadows of the common room. It was to this guild that he'd promised service before coming to stay at I' Taurn.
"g'aft'rnoon Sylus, Ah haff coome tae see Rakeesh 'pon th' matter o' Rhaine. 'er discussion wi' me hath left queries unanswered, an' she didst 'erself suggest Ah come tae see Rakeesh. Thus haff Ah coome wi' th' 'ope o' speakin' tae 'im. Prithee, wha' doth bring ye 'ere?"
I had noticed that Sylus was not his usual light hearted self when he stepped from the shadows, and I still had the eerie feeling I was being watched by someone else deep in the shadows. That feeling had persisted the whole time I'd been sitting by the windows.
The sooner I could meet with Rakeesh the better.

When Alais asked what brought me to the Guild hall all I could do was laugh.
"I am a member of the guild. Like the other members I have duties to uphold."
As the conversation between us wore on I told ALais that Rhaine was watching her from the deepest shadows.
The longer I talked wtih Alais the more I began to feel more like my usual self, and less like the shadow I was becoming since I began studying at I'Taurn. We had still not come up with any answers to the unusual events that had changed ups both. Had Uly truly visited I'Taurn and given Alais his blessing to move on? If so..why could I not remember anything from the time I entered her rooms on that night to when I woke up the next morning? and why were my clothes soaking wet? Answers still elude me
Now the returned spirit of Legendazon has come into the events swirling around Alais and myself. From previous visits, I have been able to divine that in life Legendazona was a purist...death has not changed her. It appears she will not rest until Alais chooses a mate of her own people, the Eldarie. The oldest and purest of elven bloodlines. Well, if that petty poltergeist wants me gone, she'll just have to kill me. Boy oh boy will she be in for it then...
Legendazona thinks she has power now....she kills me, I'll come back with my power increased tenfold.

The Wait
I sat with Sylus in the Guild Hall, and our discussion turned toward Legendazona. The spirit of my oldest friend and confidante was trying to drive Sylus away. Her insistence that my Eldarie blood meant I must keep to another Eldarie has not faded with the years and her death. And now, from what I am hearing, she is once more threatening my children as well.
Sylus seems more cheerful, but his accent is deepening. Some days it's more pronounced than others, but it is good to see his spirits lifting after the meteor shower and the events of that night. We still have no answers, but no harm seems to be coming from those happenings either. I will wait, and watch, but have not removed the starfire ring.
I brought up the vision when my body travelled to Annara the evening before. I remain troubled by what I saw, as well as by what I suspect. I will accept the invitation sent to me by Tass to visit the Emerald Isle. If Tass has answers, I need them.

The Liontaur swung open the double-doors to the Adventurer's Guild, and walked wearily into his beloved home. For weeks he had been gone, hunting down the Dragon that had taken the lives of his friends Rodger and Anfer. Still, though, it was curious that he had not been able to find a trace of either of them. It was pointless hoping, but the Paladin of Sekhmet could not completely suppress his cat-like curiousity. He had slain the Red Dragon, and even managed to captain the Champions of Mythos last few weeks of their rookie season at the same time. Now, though, was a time for rest - or that is what he was hoping for, at the very least.
Rakeesh Sah Tarna moved into the Main Hall of the Guild and saw there a woman he did not know, speaking to guildmembers Rhaine and Sylus. He sighed inwardly, having a premonition that he had more good to do now before he slept, but yet he still parted his lips to speak.
"Welcome to the Adventurer's Guild, Effendi. I am the Maester of this Guild, and I am called Rakeesh Sah Tarna. May I assist you somehow?", his voice boomed loudly, but with genuine compassion and kindness. What would happen next, would happen next, as all things do.

The Meeting
::rising from the chair near the windows, the sorceress turns to meet Rakeesh. Silver eyes noting a weary look that he seeks to bury as he comes toward them::
::dropping Rakeesh a very formal Eldarie curtsey::
M'lord Rakeesh, thankye fer takin' th' time tae meet wi' me this day. Prithee, 'f Ah mayst, Ah'd like a wee moment o' yer time 'n private?
::she rose and followed Rakeesh, explaining to him that she had come because of the meetings with Rhaine, her doubts about the vampiress, and how she could possibly fit into the Guild. The events in RhyDin with the Temple, and the appearance of Legend's ghost were threats enough. It was imperative to understand more about his Guild Member Rhaine.::

The Liontaur listened to the woman's concerns about Rhaine Rustovich. It was true that he, too, had his concerns about the woman. His innate ability to sense ill will and intention had tipped him off about Rhaine a couple different times. Still, though, he knew there was more the the vampiress than even what his instincts told him.
After listening to everything Alais had to say, Rakeesh smiled at her and replied, "Of course you are concerned. It is only natural. However, Rhaine is an usual creature. Her affiliation with the God of her once home, Asmodeus, is such that she is bound to hold true to her word and honour. She has sworn allegiance to the Guild, and to protecting those it protects. So, even if there is darkness in her heart, the goodness that is inherent within all honour is what drives her. She has saved the lives of innocents many times, including your... friend, Sylus."
He knew that he had used his Paladin abilities to prod perhaps slightly too far, but he justified it as something to use to calm her suspicions.
Then, Rakeesh spoke again, "I assure you, I trust Rhaine completely. Nothing in this world is black and white - especially not good and evil, or right and wrong. Please, stay and eat, and feel free to visit the Guild anytime you wish. We are a young organization, but I feel that we are doing much good in the City... ah, but before any of that, though, is there anything else troubling you that I may be able to help with?"

Other Matters
I could see that Rakeesh was worn out from his travels, and I felt badly about keeping him after I have promised to hold him for only a moment.
"Rakeesh, have you heard about the new Temple rising in RhyDin? It does not feel right to me, but I cannot place my finger upon the cause for what I sense. There are dark things happening, and changes taking place that cannot be random events."
I studied Rakeesh long moments.
"RhyDin is in danger from this Temple of Divine Light, I feel it with every fiber of my being, and with every gift we Eldarie posess."

His reply was natural and soothing, as it was a subject that Rakeesh had pondered before. "I believe you may be right... I will assign a pair of Guildmembers to investigate the matter privately, and discreetly. They will keep me informed, and then I will inform you of what we learn. Is this good for you?"
There seemed to be many false fronts being presented in the political structure of the city - but if a sadistic Necromancer could rise to power on Twilight Isle, if a Cat-Demoness could destroy and corrupt the fabric of the rifts, if a vampiress could swear her allegience to a Holy Warrior of the Light, and if a young half-elf could brave imminent death again and again in the face of an impossible foe - it might very well be possible that the Temple of Divine Light could serve a darker, more sinister purpose. Rakeesh decided to employ Dimitri and Aenlyn Hollow in this endevour. Rhaine had been over-worked, and he needed her eyes and ears to remain tuned to the doings of the new Keeper of Fire.

Rhaine left the Guild Hall early enough to miss Alais' talk with Rakeesh, but she was sure that the elven woman would hear nothing more than she herself would allow her to hear. Life in the Temple of Asmodeus taught her to be careful... very careful.
There is nothing to remain private or hidden - when a shadowalker suffers from curiosity. There was another matter that attracted her attention - and it was way outside the Guild. Rhaine wrapped the energy cocoon tighter around herself, and glided through the deepest Shadow towards dueling arena. Something was about to happen - her intuition has never let her down. And it wasn't just dueling. Asmodean priestess sensed someone touched by Baator, by the Nine Hells...
The misty visor around her eyes became thicker when she emerged into the normal reality.

Surveillence
Rakeesh, I am grateful for your support in this matter. Your proposal is agreeable, and very much appreciated. I can always be reached at I' Taurn, or brought here by missive if you desire.
I rose and dropped him a formal curtsey before departing, hoping he could find some rest for his weariness was a palpable thing.
Stepping into the Guild Hall front doors, looking about the streets, I whispered the Annaran words to take me home.
