When In Rome... (Hunter's Guild Post)

Post by Nick De Santis »

Nick had found that he could travel back and forth between realms/dimensions and found himself drawn back to this place called Rhy'din. He'd spent most of his life in what he considered Earth, but now coming back and forth for a short while to Rhy'din, he'd come across something interesting. A hunt of sorts, that had him wanting to participate. Not because he felt he needed to do anyone any favors at the moment, but because he wanted to get to know the lands, so he'd set out first for the easier, less time consuming ones. He'd found the first one relatively easy, but he didn't want to come into contact with the herb/flower. He'd read and heard about the effects it could have if mishandled and he wasn't an expert on anything in the realm, so he took precautions. He had three of the flowers tucked away from the Winter Wonderland he'd found growing. Having carefully excised them and placed them into a charmed box, he had them sealed and in a bag that was slung over one of his shoulders.

With that in tow, he went ahead and aimed for the Underground. This was a less savory attempt, but still, two birds one stone in this attempt. Venturing into it, via an opening in the Ruins, he found himself walking along the sides of a tunnel, glancing here and there for signs of the two targets that were actually in this area. It wasn't until he came to a large area of standing water that he felt this would be the first try at getting it, but he wasn't about to sit there and fish. Oh, no. Instead, he set the bag down to the side, where it was still within reach and was easy to keep an eye on and Nick got onto his knees. Reaching into his pockets, he pulled out a vial of a grey type of dust and spread an outline of it in a circle on the floor in front of him. Also pulled from a pocket in his coat, was a small knife where he pricked the pad of one of his fingers and pressed it against the floor inside of the circle and drew a dark rune of his own blood in it before putting the knife away. Closing his eyes, he allowed himself to channel a spell where the veins along his arms and face turned black and bulged against his skin and his eyes opened, a dark red, almost black as the smell was triggered and he would wait, in silence in that position on his knees.

After what seemed like an hour to him, he finally found something, two somethings that had come along, beady red eyes glowing in the dark as they pretty much skittered along the sides of the tunnel. Two Large Sewer Rats came along, but they were no longer alive, they had been dead for a short while and were pretty much in tact save for some nibbled away portions of their ears and feet. Once they were near him, Nick's dark eyes glanced towards the water and spoke, "Find the fish. Bring it to me." His voice was a little cold, but not entirely without remorse as the rats squeaked and ventured off into the water, their little bodies making small ripples as the tail slithered behind them before they disappeared under water. Another little bit went by before there were splashes and squeaks. Turning his head, Nick saw the rats seeming to fight with something that was quite a bit larger than he'd anticipated. The fish was the right fish as it went belly up for a moment with the rats clawing at it. After a few more moments, the fish tired out and the rats dragged the breathing, but still alive fish to him. "Thank you.." He said as the spell was undone with a smearing of his hand over the small seal he'd made and the rats fell over limp, going lifeless.

The same small knife was procured and two of the Large Sewer Rat tails were procured along with the fish. Tossing the rat tails into a small box that was in the bag and the fish? Well, the fish was tossed into the bag regardless and he'd head off to go and find the person he was to turn in these items to.
