It scratched at the door, a half-rotted brain struggling to remember why it was there. Hunger pulled at it. Surely there was something inside that it could eat. If only it could remember how to open doors. It jiggled the handle to the door, but nothing happened. A faint memory from a previous life--a life before it began its service to the great and powerful Deathlord--flickered into its consciousness. Locks. Maybe the door was locked.
The minion pawed at the door, unable to gain entry, and grew frustrated.
Keys. Locks had keys. The undead servant rummaged through the pockets of its ruined clothing. It found no keys, but it found a note.
Yes. A note. That's what it was supposed to deliver.
The rotting creature looked for a place to put the note since there was no one to take it. A mail slot caught its mostly good eye, and it leaned down to stuff the note into the slot.
Its mission complete, the minion shambled away. A ragged noise came from its throat. Half gurgle, half moan. It was hard to speak with a jaw half detached, but were there any that could make out its words, they would have heard "HAIL DEATHLORD."
