An Old Temple Birthday Bash

Post by Strawberry »

On Tuesday morning, the district of Old Temple was seemingly decorated overnight (though those with a keen eye would see much of it going up in the late hours of Monday or early hours of Tuesday). The occasion? A celebration of the Baron of Old Temple’s birthday.

For one day only, the streets are decorated with balloons, street art, and other colorful displays.

Street vendors and food trucks have been called in from all over the city to share their wares. Many of them have been paid in advance to cover a large portion of their sales for the day. Delicious trucks like the Grillenium Falcon, Juana Burrito, and the Pizza Mobile are lined up and down Morehead Street near the Old Temple Baronial Manor to feed the masses at no cost. They do accept donations on behalf of whomever arranged this party, to be added to a larger donation to the Old Duelists Home in the name of the standing Baron of Old Temple.

In the Four Points square, a colossal cake tower and an assortment of sweets and treats from bakers around the district and city have been amassed. All free for those with a sweet tooth. There are even To-Go boxes for those wishing to take a little bit of it home. Here one can also find decor vendors handing out silly party hats, noise makers, and party poppers.

Along the north riverbank, gondoliers offer free rides to those who wish to take a venture under the blooming cherry trees that dot parts of the riverside. Street musicians have been posted on Westbridge, Middlebridge, and Eastbridge to serenade those passing beneath them. Every 2 hours, they do a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday.

By the next morning, it was all gone! Cleaned up without a trace (and without cost to the city at that).

((Just a lil board event to celebrate Caleb’s birthday! Feel free to respond here or reference it in play if you’d like. If you’d like your character’s business to be involved in some manner, please do so! Bakers, food vendors, musicians, etc are all likely to be found there. Board only, no live event.))

Booyah! Random Free Street Party?? Desdenova was entirely down. He and his younger sister, Alice, both riding on the back of a beautiful blue and white unicorn who wore a purple pimp hat, happened to meander into the Old Temple as the festivities were hotting up.

Desdenova dutifully put a pair of fifties into the first collection box after reading what it was for, then happily helped Gus and his sister eat their way through the food trucks. After assembling a platter of carne asada pastrami chicken cheese burri-taco-pizza fries and demolishing that, the intrepid trio went to nosh on the sweets. They happily boxed up a lot of cake because Desdenova was able to stash it all in his back pack.

After a rather bizarre argument with the gondolier, Gus was allowed to carefully step into one of the larger aluminum hulled boats, where he sat, joined by Desdenova and Alice, for a ride around the canal. They joined in singing whenever they heard the musicians.

The merry trio would happily call friends to come join them, and have a grand time with not one clue who the party was for! Though chances are Amaris or Maggie or Haru or whomever would likely be able to fill them in.

Salvador was not especially fond of parties, not even ones he hosted himself, but when word reached him that the celebration happening in Old Temple on Tuesday was for his friend and teammate Caleb, he made it a point to crawl out of his comfort zone and drop into the district for a visit. Fortunately, he did not have to venture through the crowds alone. The Captain of Deathcake was joined by his now regular companion, the young man known as Gatito Lindo, who did a fine job helping him avoid coming into any unwanted physical contact and dodging sports fans who might have tried assaulting him for an autograph.

The pair of them walked side by side through the colorfully decorated streets, Salvador with his hands in his pockets and the young man animatedly describing the sights to him with enthusiastic hand gestures to indicate this thing or that. Anyone they might have passed or encountered was certain to notice the constant smile that was etched into place on Salvador's mouth. There were even moments of laughter, especially when he got his hands on a balloon and popped it right behind the gatito's head, like a jerk, startling he poor young man for fun.

They were seen together on Morehead Street, gathering lunch from the various food trucks. Salvador himself stuck to any of the vegetarian fare that might have been available, and ate very light. Though he personally avoided indulging in sweets of any sort, he did gather a large variety of cakes and cookies from the Four Points Square in a to-go box to take home to Rekah. Before they left the district, he left a sizable monetary donation to be added to the pot for the Old Duelists Home on Caleb's behalf, which worked out wonderfully because he was uncomfortable with the practice of giving gifts. Should they have encountered anyone they knew, they stopped during their tour to at least say hello, and maybe even say a happy birthday.

Ettyn made her way to Old Temple in the back of an old pickup driven by an elf clad in a plaid shirt, jorts, and a trucker hat. While the driver (Bub’barae) had not brought anything for the festivities but his appetite, the slayer had brought an entire freshly killed and cleaned dire boar to barbecue and enjoy. She’d also donated the massive boar’s hide to the Old Duelists Home, assuring them “it’ll fetch a good price — owlbear good.”

She drank and ate her fill, and after seeing them demonstrated, surreptitiously filled the bags at her belt with as many party poppers as she could carry. She’d find out soon if her friend had any experience with them, or if she’d be as surprised as Ettyn had been. (Sorry, Anya.)

Jaycy of course made an appearance, enjoying the various food trucks and festivities and taking a to-go box of sweets. Maybe two. Those she knew that she saw, she at least waved to or even had conversations with.

As a present to the Baron, she carried a special fancy certificate that declared today (specifically just today) Caleb Feren Day in the Old Temple district. She made sure to announce it to a wide crowd and delivered the certificate to the manor.

Last, a large donation was made to the Old Duelists Home and in return she received several jibes about how did she break out again.

All in all, it was a good day!

Unable to attend the event himself for unknown circumstances, a card from Haru was sent to the district with Eun, and a donation was made to the old duellists home. The younger of the two boys would then, under Haru’s insistence he would tell you, join the others he knew in celebration.

Nicole's Bistro and Pizzeria was located down the street from the baronial manor. They had set up tables on the sidewalk, café style, and were serving free slices of pizza and non-alcoholic drinks in honor of the current baron's birthday.

Living in Old Temple meant Anya could smell the food and hear the celebrations the moment things got started. She spent a good portion of the day wandering the streets if the District, taking in the sights and sampling food from places she may never have visited before.

She made sure to drop off a donation to the Old Duelists Home by the end of the night.

Morgan and Mart came to celebrate Caleb's celebration bearing good tidings and happy wishes... Morgan was happy to wish a new friend a Happy Birthday. He asked after the man's health, and Karma's, then let him sink back into a more comfortable position away from the crowds.

The two took full advantage of the festivities, eating heartily and greeting those friends they saw along the way.

Decked in silly hats, they finally settled into one of the gondoliers, sharing a sweet treat between each other and enjoying the serene view as they were taken down the river lined in blooming trees.
