7th Annual Seaside Spectacular!

Post by Sadie Knight »

The Seaside Fireworks Spectacular is back and somehow bigger than ever! From 10:00 AM until the last freedom fighters go home, the beaches of Seaside will be overrun on July 4th by those coming out to celebrate Independence Day or freedom in general for those who might not be from America (or even Earth). Everyone is welcome!

Sponsored by the Terran-American Expat Club, Hunt Energy, and H&A Industries, the event is open and free to the public. Featuring food, drinks, and family friendly beach activities, the crowning jewel of the evening will be an hour-long fireworks show put on shortly after sundown.

This year, we’re bringing back the hot dog eating contest with a grand prize of 10,000 silver. A number of the city's food trucks and independent eateries have come out for the event, all providing their fare at absolutely no charge (though said eateries are reimbursed by sponsors accordingly). While there may be no cost to partake, donations are being accepted for the Old Market Women’s Shelter.

Food, Drinks, Festivities:

Hot Dog Eating Contest:

Contestants will be given 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs (with buns) as they can. Whoever crams the most down their gullet at the end of 10 minutes wins 10,000 silver and a 5,000 silver donation in their name to a charity of their choice.

The evening will end with an hour long fireworks show over the water. Tune in KRHY 1400 AM for synchronized music!

[[Board only event, just a little something for people to vapor on the holiday. Outfits, reaction posts, whatever you want, they all go here. If your char entered the hot dog eating contest, please indicate it and at the end of the week (7/10), I will RNG a winner from those who entered.]]

Though her husband was not from America (or Earth for that matter), he was still supportive of her yearly bash to celebrate the many who did hail from the red, white, and blue. Eight years removed from Rhydin, she still visited Earth often so this really never got old. Others were paid well enough to make sure everything went off without a hitch so she and her brood arrived sometime around 10 am to enjoy the festivities instead of running around crazy trying to keep it all running smoothly.

Sadie wore a red, white and blue striped dress with strappy sandals and a floppy hat to keep the sun out of her face, while AJ, age 3, and 6 month old Sarah wore matching blue dresses with red and white striped one piece swimsuits underneath. Her middle child, 20 month old Barrett, wore blue swim trunks and a red and white striped tank top.

Time to celebrate the good Red White & Blue? Of course Ashley would be there! And she was sure to spoil her best friends children too (and egg the oldest on!). While she kept out of the water she did enjoy herself on the beach with a drink or two; surprisingly though she seemed to limit herself to that! No getting black out drunk tonight.

Beach? Fireworks? Food? Hell yeah.

Karma was there and even entered the hot dog eating contest for giggles (and an inevitable stomach ache)

Dris could hardly pass up another opportunity to party! Even though he wasn't the least bit American, he was drawn to the lure of the crowds and celebration. He was definitely down to support freedom in general! Though he had absolutely failed to note the color theme dress code, the bard showed up in the company of his boyfriend Rhys Germain and their dog Gussie, who was set loose to frolic among the surf and the people. Dris tried all of the drinks at least twice, ate buzzed cherry bombs by the bucket load, and was definitely walking barefoot zigzags long before the night was over. Thankfully he had his partner to look after him. He stopped to chat and gossip with anyone he knew or didn't know, engaged in all of the games except for the hot dog eating contest, and by the time things got dark he found a nice cozy nest of blankets and pillows to curl up with Rhys and their best girl to watch the fireworks.

It seemed this summer was the summer of parties. It hadn’t taken Dris very long to talk Rhys into coming with him to the Seaside Spectacular. Though neither of them was an American expat, a celebration of freedom was something the Welshman could get behind.

For the most part, he stuck with lighter foods and lots of fluids during the sunlit hours, wary of overheating and being too sluggish to play tag and fetch on the beach with his partner and their dog. After dark, he was all too ready to curl up with them in a cool spot, enjoy some booze and some shrimp tacos, and watch the fireworks.

Yuzuki could hardly resist the lure of a summer party and turned up ready to enjoy as much of the good food and drinks as she could! Of course the delinquent was a Rhydin native, but the delinquents did call themselves yanki so she felt it was perfectly fitting to celebrate! She made sure to find a good spot to view the fireworks, with another drink in her hand.

Crowds and parties were not exactly Salvador's style, but the sun and the sea had always called to him. That morning he had found his way to the Seaside beach and watched curiously while the event was being set up. The young man who accompanied him encouraged the Spaniard to linger for the rest of the day.

Though he stuck often to the fringes, he managed to discover the vegetarian fare and helped himself to the salads-in-a-cup that were available when he got hungry. When he found the waffles on a stick, he collected a large quantity of them and summoned a goblin and Hound to ferry them off to a friend.

Most of his time was spent sitting in the sand and observing, people watching as he was prone to do. Many of the gatito's antics, both in his skin and his fur, won laughter out of the Spaniard. The young man did manage to convince Salvador to get in the water for a while, as well. If he happened upon any friends or friendly acquaintances, he did at least offer them a nod or even possibly a hello. As the night crept in, he found an out of the way rock to lounge on and watched the fireworks in good company.

It wouldn’t have taken a party to convince the young man called gatito to come down to the shore, but he was happy to get to attend one. He arrived in the morning with his constant companion, and watched while the games, food, and other festivities were finalized. There was so much to take in!

He was curious about everything and was eager to participate in most of the games, including the hot dog eating contest. He might have endured a bit of pointed humor over the latter, but it was worth it—both to (temporarily) have a full belly and to get Salvador to laugh. When he wasn’t busy playing and socializing, he was prone to sunning himself and recharging for the next round. And he was never far from Salvador’s side, whether on the sands or in the water.

Now that the proverbial cat had been let out of the bag regarding his identity, he felt comfortable enough to shift into his clouded leopard form, and he spent part of the evening murdering a few melons and paper lanterns, and playing tag with Gussie. He also spent a while splashing in the surf, trying to catch the crabs that had come out to feed as darkness fell, but eventually, he slipped back into his man-skin so he could chat with friends and curl up next to Salvador to watch the fireworks.
