Potluck Harvest Party at the Golden Perch

Post by Anya de la Rose »

Join us on November 25th at 8 PM for a Harvest Party at the Golden Perch Inn.

In the spirit of sharing the harvest, the people of RhyDin are invited to the Golden Perch to share a potluck style dinner.

Some of the tables at the Inn have been pushed against the wall to form a large buffet. A giant roast turkey sits as the proud centerpiece among gourds and lights. The radio is tuned to classical holiday compositions, low enough to talk over. But the karaoke machine is, as always on nights like this, available.

A drop box for books is set by the door, supporting the Governor's efforts with the new bookstore in town.

The rest of the party is up to the attendees.

((Please post your dish in this thread. I'll fill in the blanks so we're not eating 6 kinds of potato.))

MENU
Roast Turkey

Mulled Wine and Holiday Punch (non-alcoholic)

(Not sure if I can make this - I certainly hope so!- but regardless here are Coydog's offerings. What a neat event, Anya-mun! - J)

Though her food was at least passable, cooking was not one of her passions. She was, however, the self-described bomb at canning. Thus her contribution was:

2 Big Jars of Homemade Spicy Pickle Relish

Image

4 Jars of Homemade Pickled Cranberries with Cinnamon

As for the book, Coydog chose one that was near and dear to her heart and one that she had cherished. (albeit the copy she is donating is in much, much better condition):

Oh, was the Cannabis Confectioner going to bake a bunch of sweets? Perhaps that sounded too much like work, for her. Instead, she opted to bring the following:

A ceramic dish of nalysnyky

and

A crock pot of solyanka

For her book, she left Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins, its cover a little scuzzy from a history of secondhand-shop price stickers and its spine left... a bit sinewy.

Thrilled to hear their friend was throwing another holiday party, Rhys and Dris arrived wearing their date-worthy best, and they brought two savory dishes with them. One was a vegetarian main dish, a vegetable wellington, which had a mushroom, spinach, and pecan filling, and the second was a cheesy butternut squash gratin. For dessert, they brought a box of boozy brownie bombs: little truffles with whiskey-soaked cherries at their centers.

And as for the books, Dris brought a copy of Year of Wonder: Classical Music for Every Day, and Rhys brought a copy of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Colleen brought a few boxes of her (in)famous frosted fudge brownies.

And a book that spoke to her:

Ebon arrived fashionably late with two contributions. First, a mix of broccoli and cauliflower lightly sauced in an herb/butter blend:

His other contribution was homemade Waldorf salad--apples. celery, grapes, walnut chips, all mixed up with mayonnaise:

His contribution to the book drive was a pair of novels by Matt Ruff:
