Vendors and food trucks will be assembling in the City Square July 26th, and early birds are welcome, but the main event will be July 27th – All Day, All Food.

A center stage, set up like a test kitchen, will be available throughout the day for demonstrations, Pharlen will take the stage to demonstrate the science of canning, and also, incidentally, will be handing out jars and jars of preserves. Other demonstrations will be grilling vs Barbecue, cake and cupcake frosting 101, and drying food.

Eating areas will be set up as well, with shade and misters, bathrooms with wash areas, and comfortable seating and tables. There will also be picnic spaces to enjoy under the sun or in the shade. Water and Commemorative water bottles will be available throughout the grounds.

A first aid tent will be open and ready with all the Bean-O, Lact-Aid, Alka Seltzer, Tagament, and Pepto Bismol you could ask for.

((OOC! -- Live and board event. Saturday, I should be able to show up around 1-3pm PST, but don't let that stop you from hanging out in the City Square setting. Have fun and drool over delicious food!

Vendors: Post your wares here! All the restaurants, taverns, butchers, bakers, and sushi makers, and where's the curry joints?

Foodies: Post your outfits here and if you can't make it live, just post the experience. :3 ))

This year at the Taste of Rhydin, the Matadero Meat Company is proud to present its 5th Annual Hawaiian Pit Style Pig Roast! This event commemorates the grand opening of the Carnicería which took place on July 13th, 2015. This year’s celebration includes the traditional spit style roast pig as well as a variety of smoked sausages, beef and pork ribs, steaks, and hamburgers too. Yes, you can add bacon! Each plate includes a side of grill roasted corn on the cob and summer vegetables along with your choice of entree.

Boscoe and Lyle Stiggowitz, volunteers from the company’s main facility, and, for a few hours, even Rhydin’s Best Cajun, will be tending the grills and stalls in front of the Carnicería just down the road from the main Market Square. Come on out for your free samples, and perhaps learn about the Matadero Meat Company’s free range farm raised swine and cattle and humane slaughter practices.

Just like years previous, the Matadero Meat Company is giving away free t-shirts! This year’s selection features three prints from the past and three brand new prints. Limit to one shirt per person, subject to availability. Additional prints may be available for purchase in future dependent upon consumer demand.

Re: Taste of RhyDin (Black Magic Burger)

Regular patrons of Black Magic Burger's physical location in Dragon's Gate, near the wall between that neighborhood and New Haven, will notice the stripped-down menu posted on the food truck the bar and grill rented for Taste of RhyDin. The restaurant's array of sandwiches named for prominent RhyDin heavy metal and punk musicians has been pruned down to just two of its bestsellers from that list, along with three new burgers marking a foray into sandwiches named after prominent duelists. These include:
  • The Mallory Maeda (Overwitch Burger): Ground lamb patty, feta cheese, tzatziki sauce, and cucumbers.
  • The Eden Parker (Diamond Burger): Double-meat (your choice!), double-cheese (also your choice!), double thousand island dressing, and onion rings.
  • The Bailey Raptis (Archmage Burger): Jamaican jerk seasoned ground beef patty, Monterey Jack cheese, mango and sweet pepper salsa.
In addition, BMB fans will be able to get two of their favorite menu items from the truck:
  • The Fistmelda: Your choice of meat, brie, bourbon poached pear, caramelized onions, pancetta.
  • TRASH Burger: Your choice of meat, chorizo and potato hash, pico de gallo, cayenne avocado cream, tortilla strips, cilantro.
French fries, bottles of Badsider and Broot will also be on sale to go with the burgers.

After covering their operating costs for the event, BMB will be giving away all profits to the Kabuki Street Community School, Kids of Summer Foundation, and the Benson Boulevard Initiative.

((Many thanks to the players of Mallory, Eden, Fistmelda, and TRASH for letting me use their characters for burger inspiration, as well as the creators of the charities I mentioned. Feel free to ping me if you would like a burger named for your dueling character!))

Silver Mark Brewing has teamed up with local chefs for beer and food pairings throughout the day! The brewery will be showing off its wide selection of drinks and giving restaurant owners (and aspiring restaurateurs) ideas about how to complement their menus with the right kinds of beer.

Silver Mark Lager / Battlefield Beef Sliders!
The brewery’s light and tasty flagship lager is best enjoyed with a burger, and there’s no better way to try it than with grass-fed beef from Battlefield Park.

Evil Empire IPA / Matadero BBQ Ribs!
This hoppy overlord-themed beer packs a bitter bite, and is the perfect companion to a rack of ribs — the meat was provided by RhyDin’s own Matadero Meat Company, and barbecued by a grinning Cajun cook named Cane!

Black Mountain Lager / Fellhand Bangers & Mash!
This dark, roasted, semi-sweet beer has been paired with a traditional dwarven dish of sausages and potatoes with gravy. May or may not raise your predilection for axes.

Simian Stout / Dockside Dave’s Lobster Rolls!
These well-rounded stouts have a hint of chocolate flavor, and are the ideal companion to Dave’s hearty lobster rolls. Commemorative glass featuring Mr. Hichi, an emperor tamarin, free with purchase - limit one per customer.

Let's get our grub on!

The Governor arrived in style... if by style you mean a large, early 40s green Chevy panel van... And unloaded several crates of various preserves, along with a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. Those she had moved to the demonstration kitchen.

Soon, sporting a 'Grab Your Balls, It's Canning Time!' apron, Pharlen would be happily demonstrating how to can and preserve produce for later use. Using, of course, Ball brand jars and seals. She handed out lots and lots of jars of preserved goodness.

This was by no means Pharlen just trying to get rid of the tons of produce she canned yearly because her son is an obsessive gardener. (It totally was. Try to grab the salsa, it's bomb.)

Enjoy!
