Checking the Pulse

This thread is for vapor play and events -- things happening off-screen with our characters and the places where they live, work, and play.

Usagi Festival // 26th of May, 2019

To help promote the Zama Shrine rebrand and expand the faith, the shrine priestess Hana Sasaki has decided to hold a festival on the 26th of May. The Usagi Festival celebrates Tsukuyomi and her children, the rabbits Shingetsu and Mangetsu. A rabbit themed mikoshi will leave the Zama Shrine and be paraded down Kabuki street (with both rabbits riding inside). From Kabuki Street the mikoshi will be brought to the the beach south of the Docks and dipped lightly into its waters, then brought back up to the southern area of Kabuki where the memorial park is to settle until the end of the festival night. Food, fun, and games will all be happening at the park -- along with blessings and fortune telling. The night will end with a firework show to coincide with the viewing of the twin full moons in the night sky. The rabbits and their mikoshi will be carried back to the shrine around 1 AM to signify the end of the mini festival day.

The early morning of July 3 after helping with some Tanabata decorations, Nako retired to her room on the top floor of Pachinko Palace. Several hours of ghost hunting and paranormal TV programming were watched.

Jackie's Delivery Service.

Somewhere around noonish, Jackie pulled up in an old '30s green Chevy panel van, and delivered a box to Izumi and Na-Rae's home. Addressed to Young Miss Lisa, the box opened to reveal purple unicorns and rainbows tissue paper. Within that...

Crocheted stuff. A black and white kitty eared hoodie with scarf paw-pockets, another in tan and grey made to look like an owl and wings. A colorful crocheted dress with granny square bodice and long skirt in fall colors. A thick, fluffy blue and green blanket, twin bed sized. A stuffy crocheted floppy white bunny, a fox, and two tiny puppies. A red dragon scarf. Penguin slippers. Stripy knee socks, green and black and orange and green. Blue mittens and multi-colored gloves.

Everything wearable was just a bit too big, because growing.

A shiny gold bag held a few handfuls of Disney tsum-tsum stacking toys.

Signed 'Love, Pharlen (and Desdenova & Jackie).'

On the evening of the 10th, Manami and Aya arrived together for a dinner at the home of Mallory and Eri. Manami handed over their gift of a bottle of the seasonal mountain nihonshu upon their arrival and after the meal they talked with the witch and the sukeban on the patio for a while.

Yuina returned to her room at Delinquent Dorm Number 3, room 106 early Sunday morning the 13th after a night out with friends. She discovered a gift of cupcakes awaiting at the lobby desk, sent by Yuki of the shinsengumi. Once she reached her room she shared the cupcakes with her roommate, Nena Oshiro and watched television before turning in.

Amaris trotted through town, quick and intent. She stopped at the Lyceum and took in a deep breath before walking in.

"I have a thing for Mallory from Mist," she called, looking around easily. She handed over a small brown paper packet once Mallory came forward to accept it.

Within the package was a pendulum with a silver hoop for the finger. Suspended on a braid of hair were three beads, and the pendulum stone was a small spire of pink and green mottled unikite. Every piece of the charm had meaning and purpose, from the knots to the bail holding the spire.

Once Mallory lifted it, the pendulum would pull lightly... Towards Michelle?

Amaris explained.

"The closer you are to Michelle, the harder the pendulum will pull. It will pull you all the way to her, and to anything you need, too."

(Amaris borrowed with permission!)

On the first episode of Hanami Harmony Variety Hour to air on Kabuki TV, Yuina Hirano and Haku Kubo were absent from the lineup. They did however make a brief appearance via video chat through Haku's phone from the Toyako Onsen where the pair was snowed in and stuck for the weekend. On Sunday afternoon the roads to the mountain property were cleared and they returned to the city.

( planned with the help of Haku's player! )

Yuzuki finally returned to the club room at sunset, pushing a cart loaded with trays of thanksgiving dinner that she had prepared through most of the day in the cafeteria. Not one but two turkeys had been prepared as well as all the sides. "Time to eat!" she announced, watching their puzzled reactions. It had been her mission for the week to introduce them to the local custom, and now she was grinning as she set the first prepared and loaded plate of the feast in front of Asami. All waited for a moment, as if for their leaders approval and Yuzuki watched as the sukeban of the school gave the cranberry sauce included in the meal an outraged and incredulous look. Much to Yuzuki's relief she began eating the rest of the meal, and so she placed another plate in front of Kaho who began shoveling the food into her mouth so rapidly that she began to cough. Reira, who had been standing by the borrowed television searching for something to watch with dinner returned to clap her on the back. "Slow down Kaho. It's not going anywhere!" she advised as she accepted her plate next. Tomo looked at the heavy plate that was put before her, surprised. "This is... too much food!" she declared. Yuzuki at last sat down with her own food, glancing to see what was on the TV as she replied to Tomo. "Too much is the whole point! You're supposed to eat until you are miserable!"

At 9 PM Saturday the 7th of December, heavenly queens Saori Sato and Aya Mori called a ceremony of awards at the 2nd floor of Pachinko Palace. All Rengou-kai delinquents who were free from duties gathered to watch the ceremony. After Manami Aihara was presented a medal for security and intelligence work, Saori called Asami Ito up and presented a gold kite medal for bravery in defense of Kabuki street for saving the life of her gate guardian Yuzuki Kuwabara. After some hesitation, Asami accepted the prestigious award while vowing to crush all that stood in her way. Saori then pinned the medal on Asami's second hand leather jacket, to the raucous approval of the gathered delinquents. Saori also presented Yuzuki with the late Lucky Kuwabara's sword and sukajan which had been left in Saori's care.

Shortly after 10 PM , Asami's Daihatsu Delta arrived at the parking deck of the Kabuki Street branch of Jusco with Yuzuki behind the wheel. She and Asami entered the store, where Asami went directly to the section of frames for pictures and awards. She studied them with care, and examined the medal pinned to her jacket. Yuzuki took the time to venture to the supermarket section and buy some groceries. She joined Asami back at the frames and helped select one after admiring the medal for a moment in the better lighting of the department store. The two made their purchases and departed in the truck, seen approaching Kabuki Street Community School's pool building entrance.

Tuesday night Izumi was leaving the front doors of Pachinko Palace, preoccupied and a bit worried looking. She had been up in the office at the top floor for a few hours and was now hurrying across the street to her car. Suddenly she was waylaid by a reporter who leaped out from the space between a van and a box truck at the street level.

"Mrs. Takamine! Would you like to remark on the inconsistencies in the..." the reporter began, but was cut off abruptly when Izumi lunged forward without warning and headbutted the weaselly looking tabloid writer in the nose. There was a terrific crunch and the man fell from the street over the curb onto the sidewalk, looking stunned and clutching his face. Izumi stepped on his hand on her way over the sidewalk, glaring down at him.

"It's Christmas time!" she shouted down at him. "Get some holiday spirits. Or else!"

With that warning she departed, reaching her car and getting inside. By the time the reporter had risen back to his feet she had started it and was on her way.
