Madness 2017!! - Registration Closed

Post by Kalamere »

~*~ REGISTRATION ~*~

  • Please fill out the registration form to enter.
  • Official updated brackets will be available on the web at http://duelingzone.org/madness. The dates of each round of the tournament may also be posted there.
  • Deadline to register is Friday, March 3rd, 2017 at 8:59 PM EST . Seeding will then be done and the brackets for the tournament will be posted by Thursday, March 9th. The first day for tournament dueling will be Thursday, March 16th. Dates may change depending on registration, but these are what we expect to use.
  • Rosters, including email addresses, RoH and RDI names for each division, will be sent out by the division manager no later than the day after brackets are posted. Please use this list to schedule matches. And the sooner roster spots fill up, the sooner we can set everything up.
  • NOTE: Your email address will become known to many people. If you are using a character you do not wish to become public knowledge, it is recommended to create a name using a free email site like gmail or yahoo.

~*~ RULES ~*~

  • A maximum of 64 duelists shall be allowed to enter.
  • Brackets will be divided into 4 divisions each with 1-16 seeds, or as close as possible. Seeding will be completed by a seeding commission and based entirely at their discretion.
  • For a one week grace period, preference will be given to established characters (eg: have official dueling records or on league teams, etc.)
    over unknown characters. After the one week grace period, everyone applying will be seeded.
  • Players shall be limited to 2 characters. While this is obviously the honor system for the most part, please respect this criteria.
  • Everyone will duel at their Duel of Swords rank and under standard fancy rules.(eg: baron and overlord fancy restrictions will be in place)
  • Duelists will have one week to complete matches (two weeks for the first round). The matches MUST be completed during the dates on the current round's bracket. These dates represent the regular DoS dueling dates for that week; matches fought for this tournament will also be counted in a character's regular DoS record.
  • Matches may only be completed during regular DoS operating hours.
This means Thursday through Monday, during hosted DoS regulation shifts or Fight Nights.
  • The duel MUST be called by someone with a DUEL name.
  • The duel MUST be started within those regulation times.
In order to keep things running smoothly, I cannot make any exceptions to these time frames.
  • When dueling a match for this tournament, please alert your caller beforehand that this match is also for DoS Madness so that the caller can make note of it on their report.
  • Contact between the two duelists must be made by Wednesday of the dueling week.
  • You must include your division manager on all scheduling emails.
  • Problems with scheduling must be brought to the attention of the division manager.
  • If the deadline passes without the match being complete and no emails have been sent to the manager regarding scheduling difficulties, BOTH duelists will be declared in forfeit and eliminated from the tournament.
  • When the deadline for match completion passes, emails from matches not completed will be evaluated and the one at fault for not scheduling will be disqualified.
  • All Duel of Swords rules must be followed when dueling a match for DoS Madness. The sole exception to this rule is that there will be no ties allowed for DoS Madness. Should no winner be declared after 15 rounds, the match will continue, however, the DoS standings will still reflect a tie for the two duelists involved. Please note, if a duelist is ahead by one point after fifteen rounds, they will be declared the winner. There is no five point minimum to score in this tournament.
  • Should a situation arise where a player has two characters facing each other, that situation may be resolved in any way the player deems fit so long as at least one character is eliminated from competition. However, no duel will actually take place or be played out during regular DoS hours. A player using two characters to duel against each other would be in major violation of DoS policy. Therefore, in this circumstance, the player will be asked which character they want to have advance by a score of 5-3 in ten rounds and that will be noted in the Tournament results. For IC purposes and reasoning, this match will have been considered a special circumstance and was held outside of normal DoS hours. The player may play this match out if they wish, however no DoS official will be there under his/her DUEL name to call, and this result will not count towards their regular record.

Do we need to reinstate rank before standings come out the week of first round, or night of first match? What must we do to insure rank can be used for tourney please.

Per the DoS rules here:
2. Duelers who no longer on the standings due to inactivity or retiring may duel at last recorded rank as shown on the Inactive/Retired Duelist List, provided they inform the caller on duty prior to the start of any duel that they are listed on the Inactive/Retired Duelist List and link them to the above thread.
Tl;dr, tell your caller before you start your duel, link them to the list, and you're good to use your rank then and there.

Quick OOC Notes:

Fight-in Round:
With 36 entries into the tournament, the first round is going to be only 4 duels. The 8th and 9th seeds from each division will fight to see who moves into the round of 32 to face the division's #1 seed.

Round Durations:
Due to the limitted size of the first round, it will only go 1 week this year instead of the traditional 2 weeks. Round 2 will instead be stretched out over 2 weeks to give a bit of extra time for those 16 duels.

Pool Site:
The Pool Site is now updated for this year. You can, of course, enter the pool(s) there, but can also get a preview of who will be fighting who. Also, we love having extra news writers for the site, so if you're interested please get in touch with Jake and me.

Still just shy of two weeks before things kick off. Sorry about the delay on that, it's just traditional to give me a bit of time to get the pool site ready and let people get in on it. I was able to get the site together in very short time this year, so it seems like an awfully long wait. Probably good since I'm about to be out of town for a week, but next year maybe we'll shorten that.

Division Managers:
You should all hear from them in the next few days, but this is who has which:
* Ramirez Division - Cass
* Valmion Division - Rakeesh
* Max Division - Sylus
* Monk Division - Kalamere

Dates each round will run:
* Round 1: Thursday March 16th - Monday March 20th (this is the fight in round)
* Round 2: Thursday March 23rd - Monday April 3rd (2 week round for the round of 32)
* Round 3: Thursday April 6th - Monday April 10th (Sweet 16)
* Round 4: Thursday April 13th - Monday April 17th (Elite 8 )
* Round 5: Thursday April 20th - Monday April 24th (Final 4)
* Round 6: Thursday April 27th - Monday May 1 - Championship

Stats for the year:
Some folks, especially news writers, might be interested in duelist statistics and such for the year since the last tournament. Here are a couple things I've thrown together:
Master Stats Listings
Event details

Questions/Comment/Concerns:
Please PM me at Kalamere with anything in regard to the tournament or the betting pool. I should mention that for the next week I may be a little slow to respond. I hop a flight to Iceland later today and won't be back until next Friday. I will be checking in from time to time, just be patient =)

I think that's everything. Have fun with it folks!

Ellisa Morgan and Baph will both have +3 wins added to their record in the next week by virtue of making it to the Final Four. Well done both of you.

A note on challenge prizes:
* A challenge prize must be used within a week of the time it is earned.
* A challenge grant must be gifted within a week of the time it is earned and then used within a week of that.

* The Overlord challenge prize will be an exception to this rule because the Overlord is now under challenge. If you take that prize you may wait until that challenge is properly settled before using it to issue your own challenge.

** Note that this may (and likely will) have the chain effect of pushing back the challenge grant to be offered in the Spring WLT coming up mid May. That can't really be helped. Since the madness grant is really a converted WLT grant, they carry the same weight.
