On Harassment and Toxicity

Post by Eden Parker »

Hey everyone,

It is always our goal to create a space where everyone gets along with each other and can have a good time. But we know that personality conflicts are unfortunately inevitable.

Our Community Guidelines lay out some general, instructive principles for how we ask our community members to treat each other and treat issues as they arise. We have long felt that these general principles are sufficient to guide your behavior when you encounter conflict on the site.

The guidelines have mostly centered around the concept of “harassment.” Harassment is necessarily situational. It can come in many forms. But we know it when we see it. And we think you do too.

In addition to our long-time guidelines, we have added a new section on Toxicity:

To ensure a collaborative and fun environment for all of our members, we encourage everyone to follow the guiding principles of kindness, respect, and patience. Toxicity and trolling in any form is unacceptable. Behavior and/or speech that is inflammatory, malicious, or disruptive shall be considered toxic and may result in a warning, or in extreme cases a ban.

The vast majority of our community members are adults. As we note in the guidelines, we ask our community members to treat each other with kindness, respect, and patience. When you are unable to do that, we ask you to quietly cease contact and make use of the ignore tools as necessary. We ask you to handle these decisions with maturity and discretion.

Site violations have been rare and we have no doubt that will continue to be the case. Happy roleplaying!
