The line of the funeral directors connected back to the distant crystal shores of Louyang were not called "Paine", such a moniker was adopted once steps were taken in the new world. Layla's is a bloodline once deeply rooted in the land of gold, yet if one were to speak the true name of the family — none would recall it.

Generations upon generations, thousands of years, when the Hisuiriku invasion took place, the gods of the jade lands sought to conquer — and conquer they did. The god of death whom watched over the children of Louyang had little option but to depart as another took his throne.

Time went on. History was lived and written. Hisuiriku's ruling body fractured and during the internal strife Louyang broke its shackles and were free. Few gods returned, others long destroyed by their conquerors were replaced with new spirits who had taken up their mantles and mandates, and some were left forgotten.

Once a god of death — now a shepherd. No longer did he have a throne, yet he continued his purpose to guide those departed to the after life. Though he dwells within The Other Side, fragments of his spirit linger in the mortal world to act as guides. Passed down through generations. Mother to son, father to daughter.

Layla is one of many incarnations and so too will be her first born. That is the cycle of death and rebirth.

Layla also once wrote a blog but chose to stay anonymous; her past works include former illusionary guises she had taken on for character inspiration.
