On the evening of Sunday, March 28, 2010, thirteen duelists -- two grandmasters, one master at arms, one swordsman, and nine commoners -- met in the rings of the Arena to battle it out for the Talon of Redwin. With the duels reaching as many as twenty-one rounds, the night's champion needed to exhibit not only skill but endurance. After the fourth and final round was in the books, a new Talon was recognized.
The first round was the most grueling with the majority of the round counts reaching into the double digits. Anya received the bye and waited on the sidelines while in the shortest duel, Roderick took a strong 5-2.5 win over Porthos in eight rounds. Rhaine needed one more round for an impressive 5-0.5 win over Delphi. Both last minute entrants took a quick exit from the tournament as Rekah defeated Dawn 5.5-2.5 in ten rounds while Errtu took out Vinny 5-3.5 in thirteen rounds. The sole Wrecking Crew entry in Myria Graziano was taken out by Sal with a final score of 5-1.5 in thirteen rounds. The rodent representative was booted out early as Penny took him out after ten rounds with a final score of 5-3.
For the second round, it was Rekah's turn with the bye since she was the first entry into the competition that had not yet received one. Relying heavily on defense, Rhaine defeated Anya with a final score of 5-2 in nine rounds while Penny took out Errtu with a score of 5.5-2.5 in twelve rounds. After a strong first round, Sal struggled in the second and went down to Roderick 5-2 in thirteen rounds.
Round three saw the end of the byes and two completely opposing matches. Roderick made quick work of Penny with a 5-2 win in only five short rounds. However, it took Rekah twenty-one long rounds to finally get a full point lead over Rhaine with a final score of 7.5-6.5.
As the ruling question with the Talon of Redwin is "Will another woman win?", the spotlight is always on the female duelists. However, it became increasingly clear through the last round of the tournament that Rekah's marathon match with Rhaine had taken a lot out of her. She stayed in it until the very end but Roderick sealed the title for the men with a 5-3 win in eleven rounds.
Congratulations to Roderick, the newest Talon of Redwin! And great dueling by runner-up Rekah and everyone who participated!
